She Brings On The Good light

For the launch of Today’s Highlights, video content creator Vanessa O’Hara of @smearcrush put her lens on our new 12H Peptide Balm Luminizer.

Go behind the scenes with the Seattle-based creative director to see why she fell in love with the dreamy formula that “creamily melts into your skin.”

Sarah Creal Beauty: How did you find your way to creating video beauty content?

Vanessa O’Hara: I became a content creator during the pandemic, which was a big transition in my life—I gave birth to my second daughter, left my job as an Art Director on Sephora's social media team, and moved from San Francisco to Seattle. Learning how to shoot and edit my own videos while working with beauty textures was both familiar and excitingly new. I'm most inspired by working directly with brands on product launches, and getting to explore the latest in packaging and textures!

SCB: Your macro videos are mesmerizing! How do you approach a new product? VO: My creative approach is dictated by the type of packaging or texture of the product. I typically try several angles and set-ups to best capture the product, while also maximizing sunlight sparkles. I shoot exclusively with natural light, which gives products an authentic and ethereal quality that is very difficult to recreate with studio lights.

SCB: Once you got to know Today’s Highlights, what did you think of it?

VO:I am obsessed with SCB packaging and formulas, and Today's Highlights are no exception—the chrome compact has a luxurious heft that I covet, the texture creamily melts into your skin, and the shade range is beautiful. I love how easily it blends in and gives a subtle glow, without feeling thick or overly pigmented.

SCB: Did you find a shade match?

VO: My favorite is 'This Just In', the golden shade that layers perfectly over blush. I love wearing it on my cheekbones and at the arch of my brow for added glow. I plan to use 'OpEd' a lot more this summer for a sun-kissed, bronze shimmer.

SCB: You’ve tested thousands of products! What other essentials are in your personal kit?

VO: Concealer is my number one, and Face Flex creamy formula is a favorite for my under eye area. I'm fully hooked on The Adults Are Talking lip serum in Clarity (the clear shade), and keep one in every bag—it is truly the most moisturizing balm in gorgeous packaging, and nothing else comes close. I also love dark brown and black eyeliner pencils, and am waiting patiently for SCB to release one ;)
